Sunday July 24th

My wife and I were up and out around 7:30 AM. We stayed in for coffee with The Colonel. Afterwards, we did breakfast at Jedediah's in Jackson. Jedediah's is 'Home of the Sourdough Pankcake.' Everything is made with sour dough...and sour it is. When they say it, they mean it. They make a decent omelette, but I was not prepared for the breads/pancakes (reguardless of the name).

We started off down the Moose Wilson Trail and the Death Canyon Trail Heads. Moose Wilson leads out of Teton Village. It was beautiful. We saw two moose cows while there - both appeared to be adolescents to me. Old enough to be on their own, but not mothers themselves. I could be wrong, but one of them seemed quite flirtatious. She seemed very comfortable with my presence and kept moving towards me. I kept a safe distance and photographed for quite some time.

I enjoyed myself thoroughly. However, I did wind up getting poison sumack (or some such skin rot) while in the folliage. It was worth it.

Afterwards, we went to Jenny Lake and did some hiking. We got back to Jackson at around 4:30 PM so we drove out behind the Elk Refuge looking for Bighorn Sheep. None this time.

At 6 PM we met up with a wedding photographer friend of ours who lives in Jackson. He kindly took us to the various galleries and introduced us to David Brookover - a very nice fellow with some spectacular work. We then did dinner at Pica's and then made one more stab at the Tetons for a sunset. The sky looked perfectly set, there was just a large cloud bank that stood in the way. The sky did not pop, but it was still quite beautiful.

At 9:17 PM we decided to head back to the hotel, do another weblog and call it a night. Tomorrow we were to drive back to Salt Lake City and fly back home (almost).

Monday July 25th - Departure

We met with Jeff Maceko, a real estate agent from Jackson Hole Realty. He was kind enough to take us around looking at potential investment properties. We someday wish to move out to the area. We do worry about the alleged real estate bubble that everyone keeps talking about. I am not sure how long property values can/will continue to rise. Having said this, the Jackon area seems like a great place to retire to - so long as you can handle the very harsh winters.

We later stopped in on another friend who owns a B&B in Jackson (Tom and Nancy of The Grand Victorian Lodge) and then drove out to SLC. We were guided to a new route that would allow us to stay in the scenic areas of Idaho and Wyoming and still save some time. This route travels via Cokeville and Evanston. We then cut across 80 West into Salt Lake City. I was able to catch the beauty below during the drive.

We stayed at a Best Western in SLC near the airport. While the facilities were more than adequate, we preferred the room at the Raddison. The room that we stayed in was much more spacious. We also preferred the Sleep by Number bed that they used at the Raddison. One great thing about the Best Western - wireless internet throughout. No extra software to install or additional charges. We called it a night and went to the airport at 6 AM on the 26th...to Providence to pick up the cats and then to Manhattan thereafter.
