If you shot them both on the same CF card, see if you can recover all the files from that card -- I've found both sessions on a card I recovered even though I had reformatted for the second session.

I use the Sandisk Recovery software. You might try that on the hard drive as well. The problem with hard drives -- as we all know from sad, personal experience -- is that they will always fail. The question is when. While it's a pain to back up immediately to CD, it really is a life-saver.
