Hey George,
It looks like you had very good light to shoot these zoo pics. The one time I was in a wildlife park was south of Los Angeles (not sure which one it was). The impression that I got was that folks were never allowed in during 'decent light' periods. :P Were you on a special tour, or am I just completely wrong?
James
James,
The park you visited south of LA must have been the old Lion Country Safari drive through park. It is no longer in business, but I do remember that is was pretty limiting in what you could see.
San Diego Wild Animal park is completely different. It is really like a zoo where they give the animals lots more space than a conventional zoo and have a large grazing area for the larger animals. Parts of it are accessible by foot and parts by a special tram. The lion enclosure is pretty nice and you can walk through it any time of the day. Since I live so close I am able to visit at different times when the sun is just right for the particular animals I want to shoot. This is a real advantage over the usual limited one time sort of shooting opportunity you get when you're visiting an area.
You can see alot more of my images from the park at

BTW thanks for the feedback on this post. I was wondering if there was something wrong with it since I didn't get any replies. I posted this at DPR and had about 50 replies.
