I finally found a Greyhound rescue that didn't have someone doing their adoption photos and went to an event yesterday. Turns out that the dogs at the event are all adopted already and attend as "ambassadors" of sorts. I wanted to avoid doing a bunch of free portraits for the owners, so I told the president of the group that I'd send her a price list for anyone who wants prints. I hope that was enough. . .
The group wanted head shots primarily, so I took my narrow background (mistake, if you ask me). And I didn't spend as much time as I probably should have trying to get the body shots composed well. (Mistake # 2)
I did find the "lankyness" of the greyhound a bit of a challenge in the portrait setting, for full body images, but I should have worked it harder for my own education.
Anyway, the good news is that they want me to do portraits and candids and action photos at an event coming up in September. I'll be visiting the group again between now and then to practice with the body shots and maybe some environmental images if I can.
Here is one original along with a few variations. I find that the red one looks distorted, but it is mostly fodder for ideas.
