While the obvious physical features of this raptor make it very rare, probably the most unique characteristic of this critter is that it only emerges on one day of the year, Aprit first.

I was lucky enough to get a couple of shots of one of the truly rare species of owl, the Cyclops. This elusive little critter is very hard to find except for this time of year. The nice thing about this owl is that it is pretty easy to sneak up on because you just move when the single eye is looking in another direction. Without binocular vision, it really can't tell how close you are.
