I have a few Red Squirrels that come to one of my bird feeders to pick up the numerous seeds that the birds drop on the ground. My Golden Retriever has started to stalk and chase the squirrels. I was watching a feeding frenzy at my feeder with nuthatches and chickadees dive bombing each other to get to the seeds. One of the squirrels was picking up seeds from the ground and our dog was outside on the other side of the house laying in the driveway minding his own business. After a while the squirrel climbed a tree, jumped to the roof of the house, ran across the roof of the house to the other side and barked at our dog. Then the squirrel ran back to the center of the house and jumped off the roof onto another tree and is chattering at our dog at the base of the tree. This is the first time I have seen a squirrel initiate the chase. Could it be the squirrel actually enjoys playing chase with our dog?
