It is just a blend of two shots stacked with a layer mask....at 200px feather. Not sure if that is what your asking. I just pop the lighter shot over the darker shot and select the highlights....feather it about 200pixels and add a layer mask. I then use curves on both layers AND the layer mask to tune it. It is that simple.
