James,
basically, like everyone else I talk to, he doesn't understand that I own the images and I grant him certain rights to use it for which I charge a fee. He thinks that once he gets a photo, it's his to use any way he wants. Period. Twenty five bucks and you can put it on the side of the Goodyear Blimp!

The other part he doesn't understand -- and I've had this conversation with a couple of webmasters which really curled my hair (at least that which hasn't fallen out) -- is that he shouldn't use images from another website. Under any circumstances. The fact that he hadn't paid for the image never even entered his consciousness. He told his webmaster to go to the ARC site and copy the image onto his website. And she did it!!!! Try to explain piracy to people who think you can take anything you can get to on the web.

As David has said, you try to be nice and reasonable but when people are purposely stupid and refuse to acknowledge that you have a right to make a living, it's hard to be sweet. I never lost my temper with this guy but he'll never get another favor from me. Maybe someday when he realizes that the air has gotten a lot colder he'll understand why. But I seriously doubt it.

Cheers,

Jim
