Here are a few ferocious critters living out in my yard(which is where I make sure they stay).

Oh wow! These are great. Would you tell me what they are and what you shot them with?

George - Let me echo Peggysue's comments. These are awesome. Well done. The first and last are my favorites. Some details about taking the first shot would be nice.

Jim and Peggysue,

Thanks for the positive feedback. All these were taken with my usual macro setup: Nikon D200 body, Sigma 105mm macro lens, Nikon SB800 flash used off camera. Both the camera and flash were hand held. The SB800 iTTL mode gives perfect exposure almost all the time.

For more details you can get all the EXIF data with the IEXIF viewer from Opanda. If you have it you can just right click on the pics and display the metadata.

Thanks again,

Geo

Peggysue,

Forgot to tell you a little about these critters. They are all "Orb Weaver" spiders probably of the Genus Neoscona. If you want to learn more here is a link to Bugguide.net

Jeez - these are incredible. Handheld, too - wicked sharp! The first one is stunning, and creepy. Gonna have to get a 105mm...
