the first photo is uneasy because of the distortion, therefore, if it bothers me, it likely bothers other people and if it bothers people in the way it does me (keep in mind roman's intentions in these shots is NOT to bother people visually), than to me, it does not work. Great photo -- YES, does it "work" for it's purpose, not as far as I can tell. . .

I actually prefer the first shot because it IS different. Not the same perspective as the NORM. And the disclaimer: These are NOT MY PHOTOS, they belong to ROMAN.

Sorry for the mistake.

BTW, Dave, you ever been to this particular location?

I have never been there. When I lived in that part of the country, it was during a period of my life without photography.

Thanks everyone for the input. Always interesting to see how others visions are diffrent than mine. It goes a LONG way to developing my sense of vision.

Thanks!!!

Yea, I've not been there either. In fact, im not even sure it's distortion I see in the first shot. Maybe Roman could address it for us?

Tony....yep...it is distortion. I personally dont see any problems in distortion. It is part of shooting super wides. But I am sure it bothers others. I did SOME straightening on the shot.

George,
Thanks...and 4:16 is a very normal time for me to be up....early to bed...early to rise.....now I just wish I was wealthy and wise...LOL!!!

Mornign light is one of the best....and being a natural early bird....just gives me an edge...LOL!!

Please forgive my lateness in responding. Mine is a somewhat different take on these. I prefer the second shot for a rather specific reason. I find the strong diagonal line from lower Left to upper Right to be very pleasing, as diagonal lines usually are. The diagonal also links foreground (LL) and background (UR) which enlivens the depth of the scene from front to back.
Nice shots!
