My wifes D70s is giving an FEE error, even with the f stop in the correct position, heres the wild part. error is with a 80- 200, 200 macro, 500p manual, 500 afs all nikons, then put a Nikon 18- 70 and it works perfect. I know we have used these lens before with it and they worked fine and now suddenly they will not work. anyone have any clues as to what is going on, I didn't want to ship it off as we have a trip planned in a few weeks and we need this working.
thanks
Gary

I would try to clean the electrical contacts on the lenses and camera.

If you are using a lens that allows you to manually set the aperture you must set the F stop to its smallest aperture and you should then lock it using the small tab, if there is one, beside the aperture scale.

If the aperture is set manually to something other than the smallest opening (ex: f22) you will get the fEE error in the viewfinder.

At least that is the only time I have seen this error.

thanks, I tried to clean with a Q tip and alcohol and it didn't help. contacts look clean thought about a pencil eraser just don't want it inside the camera, repeatedly set the aperture and put lens off and on,

thanks

I use a pencil eraser on the lenses and then canned air to remove the residue. I have used a pencil eraser on the camera with the lens mount pointed towards the floor. When I was done cleaning the camera contacts, I then cleaned the sensor.

If cleaning the contacts doesn't fix your problem, then send the camera and lens to Nikon for repair.

Since you can't send it off today, I would call Nikon first thing in the morning (1-800-645-6678)and see what the turn around time is for the repair. Tell them when you need the camera back and maybe they can get it fixed in that amount of time. See if they can fix it faster in Melville, NY or El Segundo, CA and then ship it to that repair facility.

Melville Repair is:
Nikon Inc.
Camera Repair Dept.
1300 Walt Whitman Rd.
Melville, NY 11747-3064

El Segundo Repair is:
Nikon Inc.
Camera Repair Dept.
841 Apollo St.
Suite 100
El Segundo, CA 90245-4721

If you preapprove a repair cost, that can speed things up by a week if it is not under warranty.
