I know, could there be anything more common than a pair of Mallards in a pond. Well, the light and the cattail reflections of these images do evoke impressionist memories of a visit to another pond in the small town of Giverny near Paris. I'm always a succor for reflections and these were kind of special. It seems like we usually critique landscapes in this forum, but how about some critters in the landscape.

I have only one problem with this...the composition is top heavy. Other than that....its awesome..colors are nice....subject is sharp.

Hey George,

Great photo. I really like the colors and crispness of it. With shots like these, I often find that the background is more of a distraction than a plus. In this case, the patterns do a nice job of enhancing the over-all photograph by producing a nice wallpaper for the ducks. Well done.

Can you tell me what you mean by top heavy?

Roman,

You know I really went round and round with the composition on this one. It is really a pretty simple 2 ducks in a pond shot, but what I was really after was the great reflections in the pond. I decided to intentionally move the ducks above the midline to try to accentuate the pond reflections. I guess it can make it top heavy. Here is a composition with the ducks at midline. I guess it's a safer composition but now I'm thinking too much upper reeds, not enough reflection. In the immortal words of Rosanne Rosannadana, "It's always something".
