Hey Guys,

It it Christmastime again...Two years ago, I stopped purchasing toys for any of my relatives as I think we have gone nutters with the whole toy business. I would like to get high quality, age appropriate, nature magazines for the kids. There are four of them, ages 9, 8 7 and 6.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
James

My kids have been reading that mag for a while now - it is a good read. We have all enjoyed them.

Add me to the "old timers" list also. I too was reading Ranger Rick in the '70s! Back then you could also right NWF and get a bunch of printed sheets with data on all types of animals. With Ranger Rick nowdays you can sign you child up for emial updates that come monthly. They are called "The Buzz" and mention what's in that months magazine and other stuff.

OMG! I was about to post a reply stating that my son really enjoyed it back in the early seventies.

ARGH)*&^$#@

Funny thing is that on the other forum a read regularly, the Antique Radio Forum, I'm one of the young whippersnappers!

ranger rick was great but, I the "national geographic for kids" is better. . . . it's 15 bucks per year and you can select the "right" publication for the age range. . .

http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/

I give it to my kids and nephew. . .

I have been sick as a dog for the last couple of days, and I had the opportunity to finish up my search. There is not a terriffic amount out there, but there are some very nice publications for children.

One that has not gotten mention is "My Big Back Yard." It seems to pretty perfect for the younger crowd. It is marketed to 3 to 7s.

The other that I found is called Zoo Books. I found it on Amazon. It seems targeted for the 9 to 12s. I ordered a subscription for one of my nieces.

I ordered Ranger Rick and National Geographic Kids as well. Thanks for the suggestions.

-James
