Has anyone here used, or is using Capture One? I have been offered a chance to try and possibly use Capture One as my digital darkroom. Only problem is (from what I have heard), that it isn't compatible with Windoze Vista Ultimate 64...

I am in the process of building another box, and just running XP on it... May not even go the way of the 64 bit proc, just a 32 bit one, until the gods get their acts together and provide the unwashed masses with some tools that they can use.

I would like to hear form anyone that is using, or has used Capture One under windoze, any flavor....

Hey Ken,

Which version of Capture One are you looking at purchasing? Pro or Light? There are big differences between the programs. I own 3.7 Pro and use it as my primary raw batch processing program. I have looked at the new beta of 4.0 le. For individual images, I have recently taken to DxO Optics.

Its the Pro and totally legal (not a pirate edition).

I have never used them, but their site, really makes me want to try them. I have used Photoshop CS2 for the past couple of years and at present am using Gimp2 as I cannot get CS2 to load on my Vista Ultimate 64 machine...

I use Capture One Lite, but recently been experimenting with Lightroom from Adobe. That is one sweet program, so I doubt if I will upgrade to Capture One Pro.

My general feeling about Capture One Pro is that it is - by far - still the best product on the market in terms of doing bulk raw processing of large amounts of images. It is fast and efficient. Workflow with Pro makes my job possible - or else, I would probably shoot .jpg files. During a wedding, I will often shoot 1,000+ images. Just chunking through the raw files is a huge part of the post production work. I feel that Capture One makes it happen.

Oddly, I don't feel that Capture One produces the best image necessarily of the different converters available...only that it is the best balance between fast work and a very good, usable image. If I were only doing a couple of images at a time, Capture One Pro would not be the way to go. Since I have learned about DxO optics (and looking forward to version 5), I have been so amazed by the great looking files that come out of it. Clean and perfectly sharp. The fact that the program corrects for lens aberration is a big deal to me.

I DO look forward to seeing what the new version of Capture One Pro looks like. Honestly, they are late to the game, and other companies are now making good quality products.
