Why would I do that when the results I am getting from JPG are excellent? Why would I want to take up gigs of hard drive space on raw files?

If you get it right in camera, you really don't need raw. Now, if you screw up, that is a whole different ballgame

If you ever want to shoot for commercial publications, they usually require much larger files and submission in tiff format; raw is much better for those needs. Of course, if you never expect to sell to major publications, jpg works great.

I guess it depends on what kind of publication. The stuff I have sold has been mainly in magazines or as ads for different things. The cover shot I had was a cropped image from a 5mp E-1. If they like the image enough, they will buy it.

Most of my stuff is not shot for commercial use. It is mainly for clients.

I shot raw and jpg today to see if there would be a difference. Which was really none. Though, I am *still* waiting for the raw files to process.

The majority of my PS work cannot be done in a raw converter, except for maybe lightroom. I may download another trial of that and see if I can use some cool presets and shorten my time in PS

Funny, I started shooting raw and went back to JPG. I don't shoot for the stock agencies. Though, I have sold some to companies.

If they want a bigger file I can always convert a jpg to TIFF. My jpg files are not very compressed as it is.

You are not the only one here who paints their photos. Dee Dee also does many of this sort of thing.
