Precisely why I didn't hesitate to sign up for this the very day it was announced!

"As a tip, let me suggest your change cards before you come inside. Then you can do what you want with your filled card, and not be tempted to open the bag. When coming in from freezing temperatures, I usually plan on an hour for the camera to warm up."

Thanks guys - interesting thread. I am wondering about the hour for the warm-up...seems a bit long to me. Shooting weddings, I am constantly going from cold to warm and vice versa in the winter. While I realize it is NOT exactly the same due to the amounts of time I am actually outside, I am trying to figure out the conditions that would require an hour for warm up (and please pardon that one if it sounds stupid).

Cheers
James

-40F. The greater the difference between inside and outside temperatures (once outside temperature is below dew level) the longer it will take for the equipment to warm up past the condensation point.

Hey David,

I did a check of the weather and given the time that Durwood is going to BC, it does not seem to be such a significant difference.

James,
That is what I tried to get across in an earlier post about condensation won't be a problem. Prince Rupert is about 600 miles to the south of where I live and the condensation problem went away over a month almost 2 months ago.

WARNING: The following is MY personal opinion and not meant as advice or any statement of fact.

I personally stopped worring about condensation on my cameras and lenses. I can shoot at -25F and bring my equipment into my house and let it fog up. It has never hurt the equipment and when I photograph the Iditarod, I notice NOBODY worries about condensation and bring their equipment into the building. This includes ABC, CBS, NBC, BBC, ESPN. Face it, what baggie is big enough to hold a DSLR with a 300mm+ lens attached? I think todays cameras are just better sealed than the older film SLR camera bodies and it is not the problem that it once was. Just breath on a camera at -25F outside and it will fog up as bad as taking the camera in the house without being in a baggie.

Hey David,

Thanks for clarifying. You are right, I misread your initial post.

Cheers
James

I probably wasn't clear enough in my original post.
