This is an image taken the same night as the twilight shot posted earlier, I am happy with this one and have printed it at 13X19 inches "the largest I can print at home"
I will be trying a larger print at a Professional lab once I get this colour management thing down.

Comments and critiques welcome

I like this one, Jim. BTW, we have too darn many Jim's and James' here! Nice rich colour, in both the arch and the sky. I like how the arch is set up to show the mountains in the background. Shooting it offset like you did gives it a nicer appearance (and likely enhanced the light for you). I find my eye wanders the whole composition, coming back again and again to the bright side of the arch. I'd say you did a very good job on this one.

What's the matter? You couldn't get a few clouds into the sky?

Seriously though,it's a beautiful shot, colors and composition.

I like the starlight shot also, but would like to see it tweaked a bit to show more detail at the top.

Nice work!

Hey Jim,

LOL, sorry that I am not doing this with Roman's material, but I am about to jump out with the kids. This is really a very beautiful photograph. The composition is beautiful, the colors are perfect. All in all, a great shot.

James

Thanks for the responses,

I have just returned to photography recently after several years off pursuing other interests. The recent trip to the American Southwest is my attempt to find my creative eye again. Although I would say it was not the best time of year for this area and we did not get any true magical light it was a good way to push myself to "see the light". As with most images there is always room for improvement or different perspective.

I have a question, putting aside my own notions as to the answer: what did you do to get the infinite depth of field of sharp focus?

Cheers,

Leonard

Hi Leonard

The shot was taken with the Nikkor 35-70 2.8 lens at 40mm at F16 1/15 sec. mirrorup with cable release. Focus is on the arch, F16 gives it good depth of field but may result in some diffraction (I need to test my lens's for this) I try to use the depth of field preview button as much as possible when it is critical, also with the resolution of the D300 screen you can also check after the initial shot to get a pretty good idea if you have adequate DoF.

I would say overall this image is pretty good but could be sharper when viewed at 100%.

hope this helps

One of the best shots I've seen of the Arch. Great job!
