Dear Leonard and Geo,

Thanks ever so much for your input. I can safely say that you definitely have given me some pointers as to how to increase dramatic effect in my photograph. I must say I feel quite honoured that you chaps have gone to this trouble, and have learnt from you both. Mastering Capture NX is something I have yet to do, having received it free with my D300. It certainly seems that the control points will be very useful.

I'm not sure about removing the wind turbines. I know these are controversial, but in a sense create a link with the location at Formby (for better or worse) which I think is important. I will have a go myself using the tips you have given, and show you my efforts when I have finished.

Thanks again.

Simon.

Hi Simon,

Glad to have helped a bit! I learned a lot as well from George, and learned about yet another piece of advanced software. I agree, Simon: the turbines are a part of the place and ought to be kept. And George: I LOVE Niksharpen! Nik sells a complete suite of their goodies for some $500 (which I'm not ready to buy), but I'm going to contact Nik to see how their stuff fits in with a CS2/Olympus setup. They made no mention of their software being either Nikon-specific or RAW-specific.

Cheers,

Leonard

Simon,

This brings up a good point. I have to admit I know nothing about Formby Sands and you are right that I've really reduced this imagae to two people walking on a beautiful beach. The "drama" was all directed at them. The point being that an image does represent the photographer's POV and in this case my POV was uninformed.

If the wind turbines are important for the identity of the location then I guess I would have tried to define them a little better by using some selective sharpening and contrast. As they stood in the original image, they were just faint enough to me to be distracting.

Geo
