I know this part of the forum is about pet photography, so I will start this post by saying I planned to use this dog for alot of pet photography.

I have been working at the Tampa Bay SPCA for the past couple months; Saturday they got in a Bassett Hound, 3 years old, brown and white-names Elvis. Oh my gosh, what a Hound Dog. I thought about adopting him that day but waited to give it some thought because he really is a hound dog with the super deep hound dog bark. I work many days away from home and had spoken to a few folks to help with dog sitting so he would have a good home when I was away. Yesterday, I went by to visit and say hello; today I had to go out-of-town so I thought I would wait till Friday to adopt. I thought of calling today to tell my collegues to hold him but I delayed.

Tonight, I checked the website and Elvis is adopted. I am very happy for him and hope he went to a very good home. Elvis has been back to SPCA three times; I feel because he really is a loud hound dog and needs alot of attention and care. If he comes back, I will surely adopt him but I am really hoping he has found his forever home.

PS: I have owned two previous bassetts so I am familiar with their "odor" problems, stubborn streak and deep loud voice; but I still love them so much. I will miss Elvis. "Elvis has left the building"

I'm sooooo glad that story took a better turn than I thought it was going to. Sorry for your disappointment, but I share your hope that he has found a forever home.

John,
I love Bassetts. I think they are one of the coolest dogs on this planet (or any other for that matter).

On one hand, I'm very sorry he isn't with you. On the other, I'm happy he's been adopted and perhaps into a family that doesn't travel as much as you do. I realize that may be your loss. But it may be his everlasting gain.

I always think that our home would be perfect for every rescue. And then I realize I can't give all the dogs the individual attention they deserve. And that's the key: they need constant, individual attention and love. If we have too many dogs or if our lifestyle is too transient, then they belong in another home.

I'm sorry you lost him. I know he'd be loved in your home. But maybe this is actually better for him.

Meantime, get some pics of this guy. I want to see Mr. Elvis.

Jim

Thanks for the kind words Jim and Jim; sorry, can not get pics of Elvis, he has left for greener pastures. Actually, I am very happy for him, I was just feeling a bit sorry for myself and missing the snuggle time with him. I am truly happy for him and really hope he has a home with some children, bassets so love children-especially special needs children (not just handicapped but also emotionally in need children)-bassets have so much love to give.
