After dealing with progressive paralysis for nearly three years, we had to make the hard choice to let him go tonight.

Jim,
sometimes the hardest decisions are the kindest ones. I both empathize and sympathize. Great dog and he had a pretty wonderful life being with you.

Jim - I add my sympathies. It is so very hard losing one of our kids. You never stop missing them, you just learn to live without them. I'll hug my kids tonight in Sam's memory. I'm sure he'll meet a gang of big black Danes over the bridge, and they will show him the ropes.

Jim,

Nothing as hard as losing a good friend. I share your loss as we lost our matriarch Springer Spaniel Jasmine last week (after losing her brother Skye 8 months ago). She had 14 1/2 wonderful years with our family. We were very lucky in that while she had slowed down consierably, she was not at all debilitated and even went for a hike in the forest with us the day before she passed. I think her stalwart heart just gave out and she passed very quickly at our cabin at Donner Pass in the Sierras, her favorite place where she now rests. She spared us the very hard decision that I know you had to make with Sam.

If there is a place that they go to, I hope that Sam will walk a ways with Jasmine and Skye.

Geo

Thanks everyone. I wrote a little about Sam's life here:

Heck of a way to get a blog started, but I had to something.

Hey George,

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your guy as well. The photos you have are wonderful. I know that I have said this before, but I think that these photos are a testament to the value of the work we do.

James
