i use smugmug because I know so little about the web. I want a site that can do it all but one that I dont have to spend a lot of time managing. I also can upload photos from lightroom.

I had my site customized by wolfsnap.com, dave did a great job.

There are few limits with smugmug. however you cant upload RAW files and moving files around inside of smugmug is very doable but a bit cumbersom.

I dont know if it's the best site, but it works for me because I dont know much about the web or computers and I did not want to learn it. I like taking photos not managing a website or dealing with online sales.

I think there's lots of great options out there, at the end of the day, the most important thing to consider (i'm assuming that the host is robust and online etc.) is what you want the site to do for you, or in other words what are your goals and how do you need a site to work for you.

can you expand on that?

Thanks for the compliments on my site. . .

Tony

Thanks everybody , I appreciate your time and effort, I will say last night I tried to get on Smugmug and couldn't because they were down for repairs.lol So David you must be right I have to give an aplus to Aplus . Julie you have a very elegant site. Marty the credit card is a big plus people have a tendency to go with the simple and easy way to cater to their impulses. Dave I also like the clean interface , looks like I have a lot of studying to do . I want to get this done before my subscription ends with b/p in March I'm paying over three hundred per year, but I do have a nice web site, I kinda feel like the girl walking into the Progressive store looking to compare her insurance.
Thanks all for your help Randall

For building the web sites I use the EOS template along with Photo Mechanic. 2 clicks of the mouse and my web pages are made for me in about 5 minutes ready to upload. I know how to build web pages and can hand code html, but I don't have time to do that so I use the EOS template. Julie also uses the EOS template but with different software than Photo Mechanic.
