I was sitting on the back patio fiddling with an old 300 mm lens with a new 2X tele-converter when I heard a commotion over by the hummingbird feeder. I turned just in time to catch this little fellow chasing off a Gila Woodpecker that had dropped by for a snack.

James:

The Hummingbird won, of course. Those guys are feisty little devils.

Don't I wish I had the Oly 300mm f/2.8. Nah, it was just an old Pentax SMC Takumar 300mm f/4 I've had laying around since the seventies.

I stuck it and an Oly EC-20 2X teleconverter on my E510 to see how it would work. It was wide open (f/8?) and shows some purple fringing and looks a little soft.

Not nearly as sharp as the other Jim's 800mm f/5.6, but with some more practice, it will do in a pinch. There's an OM Zuiko 600mm f/6.5 on Ebay right now that I'd like to buy, but I think my wife would kill me.
