Greg was just speaking about AKC and that reminded me of my "was going to be entries" to the contest. For the last number of years it has been an open entry for the poster contest. The winner gets a trip to the show.

My girl scout attitude of being prepared had me work on entries early this year. I contacted them continually about the prospectus. Finally I was told that this year they picked an artist to do the poster.

So since I cannot enter the contest, I will ask you to judge the winner of my three entries.

Well, that was harder than I thought at first look. Overall, I like the simplicity of the Borzoi with the trophies, image #1. Followed by the 7 Groups, image #2 and then image #3.

However, given the objective of the poster, one breed may be inappropriate to reflect the breadth of the AKC's involvement in this sport. While the last image reflects the broadest range of dogs -- and does so remarkably well -- it's just a bit busy for my tastes. So, #2 with each of the 7 Groups represented, does a great job.

Very nice, PeggySue. Wish they had looked for submissions this year.

For me, # 2 just barely beats out #3, If they both had the green BG, the choice would be even harder.

I think #2, #3 has too much going on, though I like the simplicity of the brown better.

Thanks for the comments. I agree with all of you as I really do not like pieces that are extremely busy. Although in the past when I have entered, I have looked at the winners and almost all have included a representation of each group. I noticed that after I sent the red white and blue one in. (without the writing!)

I find this competition extremely challenging. There is one winner that has one dog being shown and of course one would want it to be their breed. So the question is , who would buy a poster if it did not have their dog represented?

I am guessing that is what is separating this from real "art" since the collector may want a poster made by a specific artist. And if that is the case, who's work would you buy even if it had another persons work?

Maybe someone like Ron Burns? It will be interesting to see who AKC picks and adds to their poster collection. They are for sale on their site.
