Yes, I use ordinary Superior seamless, and I go through a lot of it with puppies.

Thanks for this Kenny, I am a HUGE fan of yours, when I first starting looking up photography on the net I saw your site and was hooked. I'd love to learn how to do this and also to have the room to do this and the money to fund it LOL. Meantime I will just keep reading and learning...thanks for sharing your technique and set up.

Dee Dee,
Your prices are quite reasonable for the very high quality of your artwork! I have painted on and off over the years, and have a policy of only giving paintings away (or donating them for auction) due to my incredible lack of speed to produce noteworthy items!
So for now ... I'll stick to photos!

So you guys are actually doing paintings by hand? I figured that you guys were selling canvas and oil work off of the computer (i.e. I know that Corel reportedly makes some excellent software for this sort of thing).

James hand painted art will probably eventually go the way of hand written letters some day in this computer age LOL!!!

My main "job" is art, I really got into the photography to improve the photos I was taking to paint from. People started asking me for copies of the pictures I was taking so I decided to add photography to my art business. And of course now am bitten by the photography bug like everyone else here...this passion is a lot more expensive than art and dogs put together!

Any painting that I give away is done with my grubby paws and watercolors!
I have done 'altered' photos for folks, but I still call them photos!

I am so jealous of those that are naturally artistic, it makes it so much easier to "see" a photo.

Have you seen programs like Corel's canvas program? How do you feel that it compliments/detracts from what you are trying to provide (outside of the obvious that you are doing it by hand)?

Digitally manipulated photos that look like painted art (some are hard even for me to tell apart!) are a big topic of debate among artist as you can imagine. Most artists are against them as they can look pretty darn good and they feel it takes away from the authenticity of a real painting. I have played with Painter and Photo Shop and can get photos to look like a real painting pretty easily which is almost scary. People may buy a print like this thinking it was hand painted, and would not be happy to find out that it wasn't.

My personal thoughts are it's fine if it is made clear, and advertised as, digital art. I will ever do digital paintings, to sell or otherwise, beyond the bit of playing I've done to see what it was all about, but I do plan, just as Kenny has said, to take photos I've taken myself and change the backgrounds on them to enhance them, but I want those to still obviously look like a photo, not a painting. The controversey rages in the art communities though, times are a changin'.

Julie, sometimes when I've painted for hours I will think "I wish I could just take photos, it's so much faster and easier!" But then when I am taking photos and get the exposure wrong or fight lighting, etc, I will think "I wish I could just paint this darn thing" LOL.
