This is our two year old, Jackie. Jackie is in the 'formal feral club' having been trapped in Tenn. She is a bit skittish, but has a real sweet temperment...did I say skittish though?

These were back to the basics shots. Specifically, I used only two flashes (instead of my normal four). I have recently purchased a new backdrop holder which is absorbing a couple of my poles, so I need to purchase a couple of more so that I can get my light set-up entirely perfect. As a result, the first shot was initially a bit too bright in a couple of areas, but I played with it in photoshop to get it close to correct.

LOL, as I edit this message, I see a bit of uncombed hair in the front. LOL. YOU try brushing a feral!

Hey James, cute cat. I like the second shot the best, the head tilt makes it. Great shots of a cute cat. One of ours was a feral and now is a slut, umm I mean very affectionate.

Thanks, Jeff

LOL. Jackie, I think, wants to be...affectionate. She is just so anxious. Sometimes I think she just needs a really good SSRI.

How long was yours out on the street? Jackie was trapped near a dumpster next to a chain retailer Down South. She was nearly 7 months old when we got her.

James

Oh mine was very young. Maybe a couple/few months when her mother was hit by a car. People knew she had a littler and trapped the cats with Have a Heart traps as they were unapproachable. The girl that took care of them was very patient and you'd never know today they were feral at one point. Abby is about 10 years old now.

Thanks, Jeff

That is quite a story, Jeff. Abby sounds like she was lucky to get with you. Here are a couple more of Jackie from the same shoot. The question I am wondering...should I have lightened the right side of Jackie's face more on the first shot?

hey james, I love cats, almost as I love cropping other people's shots. It went ahead and cropped one. I actually cropped them all but will post the first one I took from your post.

I believe there must be a reason for every part of a photo. If there's not, I try to leave it out when I shoot, oor crop it off later. I dont like extra space unless there's a reason for it. In your shots, I did not see how extra space was adding to the composition. Instead, I felt that the cat was posing or sitting is an open space. I like to see more of the candid/photo journalistic syle, classic portraits still have their place. I also try not to center eyes and almost never square a subject to the frame. Angles make the shot less static.

That said, I cant believe you got your cat to sit there for the shots you did get, so overall, I'm impressed!

I also did a slight color adjustment and took the gray glaze off the eye from the soft box.

Just another mans opinion, and as you know by now, I just like to cropping and youre a good sport. . .

Take care,

Hey Tony,

Thanks for the crop. I generally like a LITTLE room to play with on my shots as it gives me places to add my (c). Also, I don't always like cutting out whiskers and other such things.

Having said that, I have no problems with cutting things in either.

James
