Here's one from the other night - I FINALLY obtained my photography pass for a local State Park, which allows one to drive - rather than hike with your gear - into the rear area of the park where these guys hang out. While hoping for some headshots, the herons and egrets were wary of me, this time - so I tried to frame this one nicely with the local landscape. Does the hint of bright at the top detract? This is full-frame, so I can crop it out.

D200, tripod-mounted, 70-200 VR w/ 1.4x

And one in-flight, my first ever - the D200's AF and the 70-200VR's AF-S, both relatively new purchases, allowing me the option.

Hey Chris....

You are going to have to talk on this one. What do you mean a 'State Park' photography pass? Enquiring minds want to know!!!

Chris,
Beautiful shots. I think that soft lighting was very cool. The in-flight shot is very nice, and the full standing one is great. I believe the slightly lighter area on top adds to the photo, it shows the "rolling" nature of the grass shoreline. If it were larger and totally blown out it may be of concern.

Thanks, Jeff

Thanks Jeff - I'm still on the fence though as to whether to crop in juuust a little.

James, there are many parking lots at this park, and some aren't always open - the one you WANT to park in for access to the marsh area is closed M-F. So, if you get a pass (photography/fishing/canoe, etc), you can park back there those days. Or, you can not bother, and hump your gear in from 1/2 mile back in the other lot:)

Thanks, Chris. Is this a license specific for this one park, or for all state parks? Mind if I also ask where you applied?

Chris, I really like your second shot. Great flying action and spot on sharp. Well done.

Cheers,
