Hey Everyone,

Most bulletin board type systems are designed for folks to use their own server for images. With the exception of Fred Miranda (which you have to pay for the service), I don't know of many sites that do the hosting for you. This is for a bunch of reasons - the primary being the amount of space the server has for these things. Photography sites are hogs for bandwidth and space - part of the nature of the beast.

I do agree that the way that UBB makes you post images is harder than other bulletin systems. I went with UBB initially at the reccomendation of my friend, Jeff, who runs the Digital Wedding Forum. Since then, I have seriously considered moving to a competitor (like Nikon Cafe's vbulletin) - but the product has been around a while and is generally reliable. There are pros and cons on both sides.

james -

you may be right about most [photography] forums being set up this way, but i can only speak to the ones that i have been on, & this is the 1st one i have seen where you have to post images like this. betterphoto.com & i believe ilovephotography are 2 that i know of, & the one i frequent the most LearningDigitalPhotographyTogether. like i say - i have been on a bunch of forums, & this is the 1st time that i have run across this method. i wish i could help you on the softwares for any suggestions, or even what they use, but that is not a realm that i have dealt with, so i wouldn't be much help. i like what i have seen from this site/forum so far, but i think that method of posting images will drastically keep participation down.

hope you don't mind this sort of feedback - & my apologies to tony for hijacking his thread.

Hey JP,

Thanks for the offer about meeting up. I am not sure when I will next get to Hutchinson (the Cosmosphere almost made the trip worth it itself).

As to the software, the feedback is very helpful.

Last - yes, apologies to Tony who had his great photograph and thread hijacked. We can continue this in the General forum if you wish.

Cheers
James

I dont know whos is whos....but the bottom shot appeals to my eye as the details pop a bit crisper, and the contrast line between the darker "back side" fo the mountain really give the transitional ridge a larger element in the shot....and makes it a stronger part of the overall compositional balance.

I get an almost squinting look at the shot much like I might have if looking at it for real.

And for me ....reality is what it is all about.

I agree with Roman #2 is my favorite of the 2 but then I like them both.
