Thanks to James for starting this forum. It already looks interesting. I've been mainly a commercial photographer in the PR business over the years, but have always had a love for nature work.

Here's a shot taken just after I got my D70. Comments would be appreciated!

Thanks, everyone!

It looks really beautiful there. Is it hard to get a proper exposure with all that white snow?

Thanks. This is a small park near my home. As for exposure, I would normally use manual and meter my hand, then open up a stiop or two. But this was the first outing with a new camera so I was using the P mode to see what it could do. It was pretty close, then tweaked a bit in PS.

That is pretty spectacular. Where did you take it?

I am crazy busy right now (working on a wedding) but I am working on an essay about how to save highlights while kicking up the shadow and mid-tones. I hope to have it up next week.

Thanks for sharing - the composition is great.

This was taken in a small park in a residential area near my home in Kansas City, Missouri. Its called Sherwood Greenway. It has a small lake with a patch of woods on three sides. The fourth side is bordered by a street and sidewalk. A nice walking trail surrounds the lake, winding through the woods. This is part of that trail. All this snow was gone the next day, by the way, and as I walked though here shooting, I was pelted by snow falling off the trees.

Thanks for the comments.

Dave
