I like this one, although it gets a little confusing with the 2 deer partly blending together

And this is the closest deer only in a different spot a min earlier

There are 4 or 6 deer more or less calling that orchard their home at the moment.

Stu,
great subjects and good composition. The first image looks a bit soft to me. I can't see any really sharp areas. And the second looks like you had very shallow depth of field and were focused on the rump which makes the head slightly out of focus.

What were you shooting with?

Jim

Sorry that I didn't get back to you right away Jim.

I was using a Sigma 135-400 APO which is known as a soft lens on a Pentax DSLR.
Hand Held of course. All the photo info should still be attached

Here's a picture from today, the same 2 subjects, plus a house cat in the foreground.
I call it The Hunter

Since both the deer and myself were in a tunnel of vegetation I had to open the aperture quite wide, making the images softer than I'd like.

I'll probably see them again next week when I'm back from my Vancouver trip. Next time I might try bringing out the tripod and see if they accept me with it as well.

Stu,
I love the new one.

The Sigma is tough to hand-hold if you don't have real fast shutter speeds. Of course, if you can't get the tripod set up and still keep the deer around, you really have no choice.

I wasn't trying to be critical. Just felt that it was a tough situation to get the camera rock steady.

Well, you may have deer in the back yard, but we have ducks on the pool. Not that I'm jealous or anything .

Happy shooting,

Jim

I really like that last one too. I wonder if the cat thinks they might be huge mice? LOL

Hey Stu,

Is that cat added digitally?

James
