Hey Folks,

LOL, I have not had much nature photography to shoot recently, but I have been getting up at sunrise for the last couple of weeks to go photograph Manhattan with my wife. Last week, we left at 4:30 AM to go photograph at the Brooklyn Promenade (which has a beautiful view of Manhattan).

As we were driving down the West Side Highway from our place in Manhattan, we got stopped behind an accident at 72nd Street. A taxi flipped over - and we were right behind it as the police and fire trucks were helping to save the people inside. Hopefully they were all OK.

Having said that, we watched the sunrise over the West Side Highway. :P This week, we decided we would make another stab at it - and hopefully get a cheesecake at Junior's (a Brooklyn establishment).

These are a few of our shots:

Hey James~
Very nice captures! Love the early morning glow!
At times I really miss that skyline, but really, those Rocky Mountains outside my door really "kick it"!
You can always send some GOOD bagels our way!!

HI Marta,

Thank you very much for the kind words. I figured that since I was not shooting many buffalo that these were safe enough here in the general forum.

I take it that you used to live here and transplanted yourself out West? We hope to be able to do the same thing some day. In the short term, we have been photographing the NYC skyline abundantly. Hmmm. Imagine a world without good bagels. That is tough.

Our plan is to shoot the perimeter of the City from East and West and then photograph neighborhoods within the City - block by block over the next year. Honestly, leaving Brooklyn will be difficult as Chanthee has a real addiction to Junior's.

Here are a few of the Brooklyn Bridge:

The sunrise was not so great this morning, so Chanthee and I did some exploring. We came across this park with a very nice view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan. I think that we may even do the fireworks there next year (though honestly getting to/from Manhattan on the 4th of July is a pain in the butt).

One from this morning from that park (I cannot wait to take a bride there). Chanthee and I will go back in a couple of weeks (we have a wedding next weekend, so it won't happen for a couple of weeks):

Hi Jim~
To think, I never got into the architecheral? photography.
Had the BEST large format instructor, back at our community college(Randolph, NJ)and our "Field trip" to Manhatten bored the heck out of me, except for when we ran into Timothy Hutton(big back when, "Taps", etc)
Grew up in NW NJ(Dover), found and met my husband in E. Hanover(transplanted from Calif), he got promoted to Long Island, (northport and Melville) then to NH, and BEGGED the company to move us, one last time to Colorado! Never had been, but just knew...ya know?
Found good NY pizza, just haven't found the bagels!
Say...do you have any photos archived, of views atop the WTC? I had taken one, back in 1995?, that was sooo clear, you could see the smoke stacks out in Northport, but, I'm at a loss...they must have gotten lost(disc) in a move.
Just curious, if you had.....some of the views atop those great buildings were priceless.

Hey Marta,

No. No pictures from the top of the Towers. I never once went on top of them. Honestly, I always thought they were the ugliest of buildings. LOL, I still want them back, don't get me wrong. I was very much in favor of re-building them exactly as they stood.

I had taken some shots - from the Staten Island Ferry - when I first purchased my Olympus C2000 (1999?). However, and this is a perfect example of media obsolesence, I cannot retrieve them from my no longer functioning smart drive.

James
