A remarkable afternoon today..............I will have to track these guys some more now that I've found them-

Shot w/Canon 5D and 100-400 f4-5.6 IS L lens and Tamron 1.4 converter at 520mm, 1/160 iso 800 reported f stop at 5.6, so what would that be .........man that was fun.

I have been to Utah a number of times, and have yet to see one of these. Nice images. This sheep is a nice one.

Actual Exif on second thought would be f8, as the converter charges one stop for it's reach, and 1/160 at 560mm. I had to expose for the sheep and the rocks, which blew out the sky. It was neat to see these, I have been here 25 yrs and not seen them. I was with a group from our Division Of Wildlife Resources whom is responsible for thier re-introduction to the area. Neat neat hike......

Chanthee and I saw some bighorns in Jackson Hole a couple of years ago behind the elk refuge. They are amazing critters. I am always amazed when I see those head shots during mating season. A bit disconcerting that their brains are not totally rattled afterwards. :P

Thank's you all. Wait til I go back for seconds. You know I will, too............They are in rut here, this I gotta see. The Division is taking another group on Saturday, with a little luck I will give myself the day off and go again.

One of the best parts of the day was the people I met, by entire coincidence, who were responsible for bringing these herds back from near extinction,in this state of Utah.

Susan, your fox pictures on this forum are excellent.

Dave, I enjoyed your web portfolio. Got those waterfalls dead on.

James, you really do need to consider relocating to the Western United States before you become a New Yorker forever.

Tony, something tells me you have seen these animals yourself somewhere.

I was in the right place at the right time. that sheep ran up and banged on a few other rams, I got about 9 shots of him before he boogied off. I just happened to be ready for him he did just exactly what I wished for, good sheep shots are rare and very difficult to consistently capture they really dont like to have a camera and BIG lens staring at them so, often they just put their butts to you and stuff their heads in the grass or just run off like this guy did.

I've gone in search of the sheep over the past two weeks but have yet to locate him again! I'm headed out tonight to spend the next three days searching for him!

This is a world class ram, and could be one of the biggest wild sheep photographed. He likely would be in the top three if not THE new the world record bighorn if he were killed by a hunter. Those horns are 48-50 inches long!

He will be a well known ram soon

I've got to get some more shots of him for he is not long for this world. Sheep die of starvation if they live very long and are not killed, they loose all their bottom teeth and this ram has lost all but one of his. . . He might die this winter but likely not survive the next. . . .
