People seemed to like my last animal portrait despite the fact that it broke many of the rules of composition. Here is another rule breaker that I like. Interested in what you think???

I think it is a beautiful portrait, though I think it follows the rules pretty nicely. That was a good trip to this animal park!!!

I love this shot! The s curve it creates is great. I would like the image slightly smaller so I could look at is all in one instead of scrolling to see the whole. But that said - It is wonderful. I love learning the rules and then seeing them broken. The ears make it work since they seem to break the predictable.

Hey George,

I also really like the composition on this. While it lacks the absolutely graceful, sad beauty of the ape, this provides a very different emotion. For example, sheer joy. :P

Part of me says the image is a little overly sharpened when I examine it on my screen. However, that is subjective.

Cheers
James

I absoloutly love this!
I love the expression and the angle of the head, georgous.

Following the 'rules' to me takes all the fun out of photography. Each persons photography is supposed to reflect their own personal (and very different) outlooks and visions of things. If everyone followed by 'rules' then I don't think that photography would be very interesting!

I'm not sure which rules you are referring to, but this shot certainly has some interesting features. The quirky look on the animal's face makes it interesting, and the leading lines of the ears and neck bring our eye back to it every time we glance away. Sure, it's a straight-on shot, but that's what this one needs. Well done.

Rules are made to be broken (especially in photography). I like the photo. Not sure what rules you are breaking, either. May have shown more neck and body, but it works for me. Nice!

You mean there are rules to what we do? ;-)

Great shot George, The only thing I have to say is that the white portion to the right is blown and it draws the eye, otherwise you captured it with great expression.
