Thanks Jim. I think the only way to track how people find us is to ask when they call. My wife keeps a fact sheet on every client when they call and that is one of the questions. So far, newspaper advertising has been the #1 lead generator. The window decals were only $45 per vehicle so the cost was nothing and equal to 1 week small ad in the paper. On the name, when I started this I did the domain search and a local trademark and service mark search and all of it was available. I went with the plus so I wasn't restricted to pet photography only. Right now my website gets a ton of traffic, I get anywhere from 10 - 40 hits per day but apparently just people that like photos of animals... I have had a few opportunities from the web.

One other thing I do which I neglected to mention. I use a website tracker ( http://www.activemeter.com/ ) which is free and it tells me who visits, when, referring website and a ton of statistics like what operating system they are running and so forth. This is helpful on how to design the site. It also tells me how long they stay there and how many page loads. I of course use google webmaster tools as well but the information there is somewhat trivial. It does show me sites that have links, top searches and ranks that people used to get to my site, what keywords googlebot sees and so forth. My rank in google is still a bit soft so I continue to modify meta data and so forth. This all takes time and I do this on the side. My real job takes most of my time..... My hope is to do this more when I retire, which is a long time from now :-).
