I happened to get a photo of both the male and more colorful female. It took a lot of walking and hiding but I did manage to get these two.

those are my favorite birds, I wish I lived in a place where I could rely on their presence, I'd love to take some photos of them! Thanks for posting.

I have been struggling to get close to a couple of Kingfishers but they are on trees too far out on the lake to really get close to.
Nice shots. These guys move fast and frequently change perches. I know how tough these were to get.
I have been watching your progression from your first posts. Good job.

Thank You Joe.

I will be coming to Virgina (Fredericksburg) again this summer to see the Grandkids again, While I'm there for a couple of weeks can you recommend any good locations for my photographing of birds?

Check out the "Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail"
Guidebook put out by the Dept of Game,Va.

www.dgif.virginia.gov

It's the best value out there on Va Bird trails.

A bit out of the way for Fredricksburg, but Assateague Island has some outstanding wading bird populations and environments.

Thanks everyone this gives me a good start on where to plan on traveling around to..

My daughter is getting me that "Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail" book. Part of the trail goes right by her house. The grandkids and I will have some hiking to do.
