Excellent shot James, I am always afraid to point my camera at the sun like that:)

I like the the sun placement and the silhouette of the Mountains. I like the exposure, the sun is super bright but not blown. How did you manage that? I like the hazy look. Was it foggy? Good zigzag pattern to the composition.

Thanks, Jeff

Hey Jeff,

Thank you for the thoughts. This was the very last photograph I shot during the entire trip. We had been facing the other direction watching a beautiful moon-set and sun-rise. As I turned around, I noticed one of my fellow group members facing the other direction...and I saw this. As my Canon had run out of juice 2 minutes before, I pulled out the Oly, placed it on my tripod and shot.

I was able to keep the sun (mostly), by metering a few feet to the right of the sun and re-compositioning. I think that some of the haze that is seen is just the sun over-powering everything. My wife tells me this is the best shot that I took the entire trip, she likes the yin-yang look of it. I am not quite as excited about it, but I DO like the lines, LOL.

Thank you for the thoughts.

James

Hi James

what I think is cool about this shot: it looks like a nuclear blast. While obviously that wouldn't be a good thing, I think it looks coold like that: someone testing a big bomb in Nevada, with you looking at it from a safe distance. You can see the mushroom shape and all

LOL. When I saw it, I will honestly admit that it never occured to me. What I was amazed by was the simplicity of the lines. It is one of the things I am trying to do consistently - to reduce my images into something 'less busy.'

It is one of my favorite shots that I took with the Olympus. My Canon had just run completely out of juice and I turned around to see this beautiful sunrise.

Thanks for the thoughts!
James

Great curves! The colors remind me of a polished gemstone I had as a kid!

Amazingly simple things can be the most eye catching sometimes.

Splendid image, James, almost an abstraction with those contrasting curves and brilliant sun glow! Exposure was right on the edge, producing that brilliant glow without over-exposing...great job!!

Best regards,

Dick:)
