Federal lands make up the majority of Utah's landscape, so it shouldn't be surprising that state roads crisscross those lands. But when a state road crosses a national park, and that road is going to be traversed by a bike race, should National Park Service approval be required?

On July 10th, the Furnace Creek Visitor Center auditorium was filled with weather enthusiasts from across the nation to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the hottest day ever recorded – July 10, 1913. The 134-degree day was recorded by Oscar Denton, who took the reading amidst birds falling dead from the sky because of the heat.

The sight of a Rocky Mountain goat is rare in Rocky Mountain National Park. This animal was spotted last Thyrsday, July 11 when it walked off the hillside below the Chapin Trailhead on Old Fall River Road.
