Some of us were talking about doing a challenge on the Pet thread. I posted an idea there but I thought I would repeat it here.

Due - post by or on Feb. 14th

Subject - A weed

Okay, I can hear the moaning. Just think of how great the next challenge could be if you make a brilliant image of a lowly weed. It is a challenge to expand your creative side. We can all take a great picture of a cute puppy. But how about the not so cute item?

Hope you are all up for the fun.
Happy Shooting!

It does not have to be growing right now. I have snow everywhere and the dried weeds look great. Come on - see the beauty in this season!

LOL - this is NOT going to be easy...I am thinking about what I can do, and honestly, I have no clue. I will have to do some thinking.

Great to hear you are on board DeeDee. Tony the first one is for you since the barbed wire image made me think about the things that bug me around horses, and this one is another horror for the horse owner. I tried to look at it differently and hopefully I can come up with something that makes me look at this Weed in a different light.

The milk weed is the second and another burdock. I am trying to get into this weed thing and it is indeed a challenge.

Those are beautiful Peggysue! I think you accomplished what you set out to do wonderfully!!!

Do we have to take photos of weeds in their natural state or can we pick them and bring them inside and set them up?

I would recommend your idea if you can. These plants were in the forest preserve next to my home. If I would have picked them and brought them inside, the snow would have melted and I could be fined for picking them. Outside of that, I must admidt that I forgot how cold I could get shooting and how fast battery life fades in the cold.
The light in the preserve was like walking in a Chihuly glass sclupture. The experience was worth the cold. I know our Australian photographers might have a warmer time shooting this challenge but isn't that what a challenge is all about?

Thanks for the feedback and I hope to see some more images posted.

Hallie and I went weed hunting on our walk today. I have a vision of what I want but didn't find any weeds. So we brought home a variety and now we have bugs in our house LOL!!!! I tossed them and am going on a mission to find what I have in mind...this is fun! (except for the bugs but I think we got 'em all with the vacuum!)

Wow, that is a great description of walking through the preserve. Chihuly is from my general area so I've been able to see a few of his displays. I am a huge fan too.

AHHH. I am NOT doing so well right now with the weeds. My wife and I are going hiking today, so we will see what I can get. I was talking about going to the Bronx Botanical Gardens, but Chanthee said that was cheating.

Dee Dee, thanks for letting me wake up to a great chuckle! I never would have thought about the bug potential. Hope no one brings a Horny Devil into their place by mistake. If you haven't seen these images, take a look at Marcs latest post!

( but Chanthee said that was cheating.)
Not that I want to say anything about Chanthee comment but if you can find anything that you consider a weed in the botanical garden -- why not??

Isn't that what art is all about? Interpretation? The premise is Weed. No stipulations, requirements, bounderies. Let your imagination go wild.

On a side note... I have always wanted "society" to label dandelions a flower!

Happy shooting.

Another side note... How about a self portrait for out next challenge. Since we are not really able to see one another except through our work, then how about your own interpretation of yourself? Does it look like your work?
