I am interested in jumping up a notch from my Epson R1800 and have been looking at the 3880 or 4880. Among other considerations, I am hoping to print BW pics without some strange tinting that I get in the 1800.

I was wondering what the cartridge life was like in the larger Epsons. As they run about $90 each, this is a major consideration for an old retired reprobate such as I.

Hi Durwood,

I believe that the Epson R1800 uses 14ml cartridges. The higher end printers, like the 3880 run on 80ml cartridges, so they should last about 6.5x as long.

Having said that, I was on the Hunts website and they were about $48 dollars, not 90. The much larger capacity 220ml cartridges are about that much. Epson R1800 ink cartridges at B&H are about 12 dollars per cartridge, meaning there is a significant (but not monsterous) savings on the higher capacity inks.

Hope this helps!
James

I have been getting my inks and papers from Atlex. They show it at 59. What is the URL for Hunts?

Thanks

Some places I typically scan for ink & paper:

Hunts: http://www.huntsphotoandvideo.com/shoppi...ue&acc=true
price "in the cart" is $47.99 for Epson3800 cartridge

Atlex: http://www.atlex.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?add=action&key=T580500
price "in the cart" is $44.99 for Epson3800 cartridge

InkJetArt: http://www.inkjetart.com/cart/shopping_cart.php?cPath=793_1163_1164_1211&sort=4a
price "in the cart" is $49.95 for Epson3800 cartridge

RedRiverPaper: http://www.redrivercatalog.com/inks/epson3800inks.html
price "in the cart" is $49.99 for Epson3800 cartridge

B&H $44.59

Paper of various kinds will often go on sale here & there. But rarely have I seen ink go on sale. I highly recommend Atlex.
