Death Valley in 360 degrees

Death Valley in 360 degrees - 03/28/08 03:47 AM

Here are a couple of 360 degree panos I took when I was in Death Valley last week. One is at Badwater, the lowest elevation in the continental US. The other is an early morning view of the giant sand dunes near Stovepipe Wells.

Just click and drag your mouse over the pano to pan across and up and down.

BTW it was beautiful weather last week. Not many wildflowers, but lots of geological color.

Was able to see the first one, but the second shows that it is 100% done but just a white screen, The first looks very desolate. One place I have never been,DAve

Dave,

Ummm! Not sure why you're having a problem with the second one. This is a Java viewer and I would think if you could see the first one, you should be able to see the second one which I is actually a little more interesting. You might try downloading the latest version of Java from Sun at

http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Yes, Badwater is a very desolate place as is most of Death Valley. It's one place where you will see a "crowd" at Death Valley. Seems like everyone drives out there.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am using firefox and I, too, have a problem with #2. It says in the image space:
"Loading image 100% complete" and my status bar says App;et ptviewer started, but nothing ever appears.

#1 works perfectly

I will try IE-7.
Hmmm ... same thing there.

All my plug-ins and other items are fully up to date.

Dave,

Computers. Ya gotta love em.

OK. Let's try this link which is to a flash player instead of a Java player.

OK I give up on the panning viewer. Here is the standard static image.

Spoken like a true photographer that knows something about getting a shot like this. You caught me on this one. Easter Week is traditionally the busiest time in Death Valley and people had been hiking all over the dunes all week. The morning I was out there, there must have been 50 other photographers. Just about every other dune had a guy with a tripod on it. Needless to say it took alot of cleaning up to get the desolate look back. Apparently though I missed a panel in the pano so you see the footsteps to nowhere. I will have to go back and fix that one and redo this.

Hey George,

I had no problems viewing the initial links. They are both really cool. Let me ask you, did you by some chance see much in way of flowers blooming? I am told that this is a good season for DV. LOL, I guess I will find out tomorrow anyway. I am heading their tomorrow. I hope to be there in time for sunset on the dunes.

Starting tomorrow, I am not going to have Internet access for the next 4 days. I really wish the park hotels would offer this. LOL, I need Internet a lot more than I need phone. :P

James,

Not that much blooming when I was there last week. Some flowers on the road out to Beatty, but it was pretty lackluster compared to Anza Borrego and Joshua Tree where there were acres of all kinds of flowers.

Hopefully it won't be as crowded as it was last week.

Have a great time.
