In Glacier - 08/13/11 04:47 AM

Hey Everyone,

I got into East Glacier this evening. Nothing really to show as where I am located is really a sunrise spot. Having said that, it is really - and I mean really - beautiful. I think this is going yo be a great week.

I am gonna crash. Blast off is 4:30 AM.

Re: In Glacier update - 08/17/11 10:59 AM

I am here for my last full day today. I am wiped out! On a positive note, Ifinally met Tony Bynum (aka Final Shot) yesterday. We went hiking last night and photographed goats. This morning we are going to a place called Sift Currant for sunrise. I am leaving now, as a matter of fact.:). The internet is the fastest i have seen in a few days. It has been tough as I have not beenable to post.

Cheers
James

Ps land tomorrow in the City around midnight.

On a plane now getting ready to fly back to NY. I expect to land around 1 am. Today was really cool. This morning, Tony took me off on a short plane ride for a project he is working on. The weather was not great and we had to turn back sooner than expected. It was pretty cool though none the less. Our Tony is a very interesting guy indeed!

It will be nice to come home and see the wife and beasts though. smile

Got in around 2 AM after all was said and done. It was good to be home. Having said that, Steve's workshop did not fail to deliver, and I was glad to help out. I had a blast meeting Tony after my workshop. Over-all, an A++ experience. I cannot highly enough everyone making the trek out their. What a cool park.

Re: In Glacier update - 08/21/11 02:53 PM

It was a fund couple of days for me . . . I only wish i had more time to spend with james. . . I had just returned from a professional conference (I'm on the board of directors for the, professional outdoor media association) in Ogden, UT. We have an annual conference every year . . . In any event, i was tired and so was james after he'd had a week of almost no sleep! But, we pressed on with no qualms.

The truth is, the life of a full time commercial nature and wildlife photographer can be summed up by saying "sleep less." To me it's the best and worst of things - so bitter sweet a lifestyle but one that i could not/would not change for anything . . .

Anyhow, here's a shot of james photographing a Mountain Goat (billy) in glacier park. Lots of snow still left, this year were made progress on building glaciers! LOL

Finally, James mentioned a project I'm working on. Here's a sneak peak. I'm working on a conservation photography project covering the build up of industrial oil complex on the blackfeet reservation (east side of glacier national park). I'll be covering the environmental as well as the social and cultural . . . The entire project will be made available online with the photos, video, and explanations embedded into an interactive visual platform . . . Should be a great learning tool for anyone with an internet connection.

Cheers!

Re: In Glacier update - 08/21/11 05:28 PM

LOL, Tony, that is a lot less damaging than I expected. Their is a crack in my monitor around my face, but fortunately the focus on the goat has helped keep the entire thing from splitting down the middle. :P

I am still going through my stuff. I hope to have a few photographs to share in the next couple of days. The weather did not really cooperate, and I did not get the sunrises/sunsets that I really was hoping for. frown However, Glacier really has me stoked and I will try to convince Chanthee that she needs to go see it...soon!

I would not put up a shot of your face without first clearing it with you . . . as for me, you can post whatever you want of me, there are a 100 pics of me on the www. . . .

Thanks, Tony. I love that shot. If I had the goods to make an article (which I don't think I do), I would beg to use that on the front page. It is an awesome shot.

Glacier - Billy Goat - 08/22/11 02:41 PM

This was taken with Tony (LOL, obviously) a little later during sunset. It is one of my favorites from the trip - though I realize I could use a bit of help with pp. :P

Great photo Tony! My monitor seems to have survived the James encounter. How close were you to that billy goat?

I love your photo James. Do you have Vivesa2 James? I would add a couple of control points on the goat and the mountain and lighten a little, then darken the sky a tad. If you don't it would be worth it to download the trial from Nik and play. I love Nik's software.

Re: Glacier - Billy Goat - 08/22/11 07:59 PM

very close, in fact i was laying on my stomach with a 17-35 2.8 . . . that billy was all about us . . . after we were done "bothering" him with a photos shoot, he followed us to the trail and feed only feet from where we were stowing are gear for the return hike back to the vehicle . . .

Hey Everyone,

Tony was talking about the project he was working on. Here is an interesting article taken out of the NY Times today (in our NP News) about what is occurring in Glacier.
