Adobe Monthly Subscription

Adobe Monthly Subscription - 05/12/13 02:57 PM

Hey Everyone,

How do we all feel about the adobe subscription plan? I saw that photoshop only is 20 bucks/month. For those of us who generally wait a few years between upgrades (though I did purchase 5 not too long ago), this seems like a kiss of death...yet Adobe is the one product that I have contnuously used for the last 15 years. So the 64,000 questions:

1. Do I just buy 6.0 and let it ride for a few years?
2. What alternative software packages are out there that are as about as good?

Cheers

I have one thing I do after every hiking trip that requires me to add a border and some text to a photo. That is the ONLY thing I use photoshop for. Everything else I do in Lightroom. I'll still be able to do that border and text in photoshop cs5.5 for a LONG time....

So my vote is to NOT go to a monthly subscription and let it go...

Stupid question - I have not used lightroom in years (only when it came out). What are it's post processing abilities? Can you do layers and masks, etc? i.e. what can't you do in lightroom?

I am going to stick with CS6. The only problem is if I live long enough to get a new camera, Adobe Camera Raw may not support it and without a subscription ...

I have started using Topaz Software's plugins and they work with Lightroom and also have a stand-alone module. Their noise software (DeNoise) is excellent. Take a look at their site and their webinars.

If I need layers then CS6 will work fine or a I may look at Elements.

I can't see paying Adobe 20 bucks month.

Hey Durwood,

I am also using Topaz' plug ins (and I am writing an article on Lens Effects).

I am probably going to upgrade to CS6 and stop there. As I do not use Adobe for my raw workflow, I just need access to the major pieces. Still, it bothers me that they are going to kill the upgrade cycle.

Having said that, if Apple can kill Flash, why cannot someone else make CS irrelevant?

I have CS6 and Lightroom 5. Both will be just fine for me. I have no intentions going CC. We shall see though. I don't like that if I don't want to upgrade I am still sending money to Adobe.

If they come out with some crazy feature that I can't live without...then I will have to re-evaluate.
