lovely girl and puppy, but overall it's way too red. Let me guess, you shot it jpg and increased the saturation, youre also shooting a nikon. . . I'm guess, i did not look at the exif. . .

I'd go in and fix the skin tones by reducing the red, or if you have a native raw file, try some WB and cool it off a bit. Her teeth are almost blown out, maybe over exposed a bit. . .

Post the original file. . .

Pretty girl and cute dog. . .

also, i would reduce the contrast a bit, her cheeks, nose, and chin all are distracting, a bit, from her eyes.. . .

Hey,

I would also add that it looks like there is a bit of softness on the young girl. Generally when doing shots with humans, I always try to focus on them. You can deal with some of the specular highlight issues (around the nose, cheeks and lips) by taking a paint brush and bringing it down to about 12-17 percent opacity and painting over the areas that you want to bring back.

Oh I'm always curious as to what *I* think is right, what the "Technical" says is right(mind you I base my stuff from that) and what OTHER's think is right.
I love the shot, great defination! But yes a bit to harsh colorwise.
I have been looking into various monitor calibration devices and THAT might be part of what is being seen on the original screen?
Here's my stab at it,(I tend to practice better on something I haven't already "seen"(in person) and I'm jealous that this wanderer, already figured out the embeding technique!

PS...How do you like the Canon 30D??

Hey Marta,

You are right - you did a nice job cleaning up the file. There were some hot areas around the lips still, but honestly, that is me being neurotic. :P

PS Glad to see you are embedding those images!

This is a darling shot! That is one happy little girl. Nice job tweaking it Marta, it's amazing what a bit of photoshop will do.

I have been using the 30D for about 2 months now and by far a great camera and it knows more about photography than I do. The image I posted is straight from the camera not editing as of yet. Thank you for your C&C it is a great help.

if that's straight from the camera, you need to check your settings, or reset it. I think you must have your saturation up, if youre shooting jpg. If you were shooting RAW, there is something amiss with your lens or your camera or both. What did you use for white balance?

Check your settings and make sure your saturation is not turned up. when you shoot skin tones like hers, you have to be very careful because the skin already is warm and soft. . .

maybe one of the canon people can weight in here, but that shot, looks to me like too much saturation and when I forget and leave my saturation up on my nikons and then shoot people I get too much red.
