Update on our Rocky

Update on our Rocky - 10/03/08 10:42 PM

Well, Rocky has had the surgery and the surgeon called and said the tumor was actually the size of a child fist, all in that poor little Chihuahua. The good news is the surgeon believes he was able to remove the entire mass. Not sure if we will get pathology report until Monday. We went over to the hospital while we were out just to check in and they actually had us go in to see him. The poor little guy is obviously heavily sedated but he still got up to greet us. We left quickly to try not to upset him much. We're praying this is the worst and now he will recover quickly. Tonight he stays to ensure there is no internal bleeding and so forth, and if tomorrow he acts good, and is able to drink he will likely come home.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Sounds like good news, hope it continues and he comes home where he will be most comfortable.

I just got off the phone with the Dr. at the hospital. Rocky had a good night and appears to be alert and reactive this morning and no signs of any complications or internal bleeding. He won't show any interest in food, but that is typically how he has acted when he has had an overnight stay in the hospital before. I would not be surprised if he devours everything he can the minute we are there and offer it to him. We will be going in to see him and give an update later when we get back.

Bob,
sounds like a good report overall. Get him home and spoil him some more. He deserves it.

Well we went to see him and the minute we took him into the visiting room and put food on the floor he consumed every last bit of it. He was clearly very happy to see us. Tail wagging to the extent we almost had to leave him alone in the room to avoid risk of injury to my wife and I! The doc came in, said he was doing very well. He also suggested since he ate, take the little guy home. Rocky was thrilled with that news as well.
Rocky is now home with us. He has been drinking a lot and he was acting great. I say was because we were instructed to give him a pain pill as soon as we got home. Now I know what Rocky would look like drunk! He's been a little wobbly so now it's time for he and Mom to sit quietly on the couch (his favorite place to be). I know there is no way I can come up with any logical reason why I should also participate in this rest and relaxation session, which is the first of many I'm sure, so I guess it's yard work for me.

Thanks again to all for everyone's concern, support and best wishes. Now we await the results of the tests on the tumor. Thanks again folks!

Beautiful Baby! Wish I could have another small dog,but my big dogs would probably hurt one(accidentally). Just lost a Minpin that I rescued, the poor boy was diabetic and went blind. He was a handfull! He was a 15 pound Alpha male and my German sheperd is a 173 pound Alpha male! They always kept me on my toes but never hurt each other.

Poor guy. For such a big boy, he looks so helpless. I hate that. Glad to hear he is doing so much better!
