Igloo, AKA Furry Lips, AKA Wooby, but mostly just Iggy got his name as Tammy and I went letter by letter through the alphabet throwing out anything that came to mind the night we met and picked him from the litter.

Iggy was our first puppy. We met him when he was about 3 weeks old and he came home at 6 weeks, which was a surprise since we didn't expect him to be weened for another week or two.

We picked him because he was the outgoing, mischevious puppy of the litter. Even after his 17th birthday he liked to remind us how mischevious he could be if we forgot to block off the trash can.

We brought him home just before Christmas in Germany so his our first memories were of carrying him around the Christmas Markets - a cute little white fuzz-ball wrapped up in a t-shirt. By the way, he soon ate the pocket off that t-shirt, followed by a throw-rug in our military housing. Two more trips back and forth across the pond to the States and back to Germany made him a world traveler.

He even rode the sub-way in Berlin and marked territory on the Berlin wall!

A bit later, he decided a ball point pen would make a good snack and had the ink spots on his tongue for the rest of his life. Yep, the outgoing mischievous one he certainly was.

He was great company and comfort to Tammy while I was traveling with the Army, and was always the gentle kind one (something Eskie's aren't really known for) even when his bully of a brother, Sam the Corgi would pick a fight.

He walked off-leash among lions and elephants for his "final exam" after he finished his first obedience course and survived being poisoned by a careless Army contractor in CA.

He lived a long an healthy life.

Hey Jim,

My condolences as well on your loss. These things are never easy - regardless of the age. The photograph you shared of him is beautiful.

Jim,
such a great dog and he lived a long and wonderful life full of adventures very few other dogs ever experience. To have 17 years of companionship from any dog is truly remarkable. I envy you and Tammy. I also mourn your loss.

Know that we here in the Garvie clan empathize and sympathize. I'll hug each of our guys tonight just a little bit tighter and for just a little bit longer.

Oh Jim, I am so sorry to hear you lost Igloo. 17 years is a long time, but it is never long enough. What a character! That is why I love eskies, they have a sense of humor. He looks quite dignified and what a sweet expression. Now I know why you liked my Eskies so much.

Hugs and prayers to you and Tammy,

Penny

Thanks Penny,

We have a 2yo Eskie as well as three other tail-waggers in the house to comfort us.

I'm wishing for a puppy right now, but know better.

I'm so sorry to hear, Jim. Iggy looks like a sweet old boy. I love his crisp white coat as well.

We lost our lab/husky mix, Calisto, on the very same day. She was only 10 and had a lot of tumors, but we didn't think any of them caused a problem. She had a series of seizures (over 15 grand mal within a few hours). Something was very wrong - either a tumor in her brain or a blood clot is what our vet thinks. We have 4 other dogs, but it still feels empty without her.

Today is really the first day that I've felt mostly back to normal. I hope you are getting there as well.

That was a bad day for dogs for sure and I'm so sorry you had to share in the grief of that day.

We also have four dogs in the house, but just last night my wife called for Iggy when we were rounding everyone up to go to bed.
