P.J. posted a thread a while back about working on black and the material she used from DMKfoto.com http://www.dmkfoto.com/category_s/44.htm. I got some and have to say it is a love / hate relationship.
Hates:
Once it gets wrinkled or crinkled, it's difficult to get it smooth again. It's sort of between canvas and velvet in handling and gets to be a pain to fold and unfold.
It's a fur magnet.
It comes cut crooked and wider than the 9' it is advertised as. That wouldn't have been a problem a while back, but now I have a roller system and I want exactly 9' (and I want it shipped to me that way)!
Because the ends are (very) crooked, it's almost impossible to get it on a roller straight!
Loves:
This stuff is more than non-reflective, it SUCKS the light right out of the room. In this photo (unadjusted other than crop, straighten and sharpen), the are below the glass is a good 12 feet closer to the light than the backdrop above the glass. I was expecting it to go gray, but it's just as dark as the rest. Granted, if you drop a levels layer on it and move it as bright as you can, there is a difference, but for practical purposes, this stuff is BLACK!
EDIT: OOPS! Looks like I left out the straighten. Oh well.
It's light weight.
Once you get it up and smooth, it stays that way with little effort.
The jury is out. Putting the stuff up, I hated it, shooting on it, I loved it.
