To flash or not to flash...

To flash or not to flash... - 07/30/11 11:31 PM

This is a shot of Bianca. It was shot with available light and overhead daylight fluorescents. I'm not sure what I think of the image. Should we have used a flash with a grid? Any thoughts?

Here is my opinion: I would say use a flash with a lower ISO due to noise and a faster shutter speed. The top part of the dog looks blown out to me.

But what kind of flash do you mean? If it is built into the camera and points directly at your subject, that is not good. A flash that bounces off a wall or ceiling would be better.

Thanks Sue. I agree about it being blown out. A speedlight off the camera bounced at the wall would have been better.

Here's a little more tweeking in Lightroom. Does it loose the "pop" it trying to get the definition at the top of the head?
