Sometimes You Just Get Lucky - 09/09/12 02:29 PM
Over the Labor Day Weekend, we took 3 of "our" dogs up to Lexington KY in an attempt to finish the AKC Championships of two of them. Moxie (Annihaus Blue Suede Moccasins) and Ike (Annihaus Blue Suede Combat Boots) are littermates that we bred. We own Moxie and co-own Ike. Moxie just needed one win to earn her CH and Ike needed 7 pts. but we figured we might get a few more on him and then we'd send him home with our handler, Kimm, to finish. The third member of the trio is our 1-year old puppy, Scamp, who we entered for experience and to help make the major for the boys -- which did make, right on the nose, for 3 of the 5 days.
Sometimes you get lucky. Moxie managed to win on Saturday and the judge was nice enough to award her Best Of Winners which gave her the last major she needed to finish her Championship. Along the way, Ike had managed to win twice and then, on Monday (the last day of showing) he went Winners Dog to finish HIS Championship. We were delighted and amazed. And while Moxie and Ike were doing all the winning, Scampy managed to place first in his class all 5 days. It was a great trip and one that comes very seldom in the sport of dog showing.
Once we got home, I promised to get a portrait of the new Champions but during the week, housework both inside and outside seemed to be more of a priority than taking pictures. Nevertheless, on Friday, I managed to get the siblings outside for a quick portrait. Linda set them up and I clicked off 6 images in less than 5 minutes. The two Champions actually acted like show dogs. They were amazing. And here is the result of that "quick and dirty" shoot: Moxie on the left and Ike on the right.
As I said, sometimes you just get lucky. To capture these two doing anything other than careening around the yard with Moxie attached to Ike's cheek is truly an amazing feat. They are great kids and worthy champions. We are very proud of both of them.
