Dramatic or just bad?

I wish I had my light a bit more to the left, but it was on the stand when this dog just walked up to visit. More of a grab than a set up.

Does the shadow add to the drama or detract from the overall image?

Doesn't really add drama for me, and it doesn't really detract. Its just a shadow on the neck

Hmmm. So, neither hot, nor cold. Luke warm. That settles it I think.

Jim;

I like the lighting, maybe a touch of fill would help the shadow; I am not fond of the crop or cutting off the legs.

I like images the follow the Charles Glatzer statement "light illuminates, shadow defines"; when we evenly light from the front (Arthur Morris lighting), there are not defining shadows. I feel the shadow adds depth and interest to this shot; I might crop to just a face shot-for me that is a stronger image and the lighting works as a crop, for me.
