May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist

May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 05/30/12 09:06 PM

Hey Everyone,

Sorry, I did not publicize this better. So, as we did not make an official thread, shall we say 30 days from today? That would put us in for the 29th of June.

This month's forum contest: Morning Mist.

Hummm...as the temps go up, morning mist might be harder to locate. It will be interesting to see how this pans out...will keep my eye on the dew-points.

Hey Roman,

Agreed. I am a bit anxious about this one.

In the LA area we call it "June gloom". It makes for a giant softbox early mornings at the Huntington Library & Garden.
Jacarandas and palm trees say So. Cal. for me and helicopters, of course (that dot ~1/5 frame down from top & centered).
I call this "Henry's View" - taken from the mansion veranda looking south.

Well I was up at sunrise with my camera this morning, but no mist. I told my wife I must take the next 2 weeks off to take a photo trip to Colorado so I can get mist photos, but for some reason she did not go for it.

... She said something about the Tshirt not being worth it. She obviously does not understand the prestige with having a NWP T Shirt!

Dave, I am so used to Facebook that after reading your comment I wanted to push the like button smile
Maybe you might rent a fog machine and replicate the misty look in your area. Tell the wife it is to photograph her for a very glamorous look.

Ha Peggy

Yes - great creative idea!

There is a nice fog action in the NIK tools.....might have to break that out.

Bernd and I are discussing the possibility of changing the topic. He lives in an area where morning mist at this time of year is not a problem. I was out for sunrise this morning and there was nothing.

With James' approval, I would like to suggest that the topic of the contest be changed to "Morning Glory" (which still allows morning mist images :-) ).

Sounds like a good subject. Do the shots for this contest need to be taken during the contest period?

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 06/10/12 07:54 PM

Yes. All of our contests are supposed to be performed during the event period.

OK, I did find some fog. Was shooting a wedding this weekend at the beach and it was nice and cool. Great fog weather and it did not disappoint.

Here is my entry.

Looks like we don't have many entries. I was a bit palsied this month and only went out on a couple of occasions - I got nothing I was pleased with. Shall we extend this out a week?

James

Sure...extend it out and see what comes of it.

OK... I haven't been here in a while, but am willing to throw my hat, or shall we say, morning glory into the ring. This is a macro of dawn dew on a rabbit foot clover. It was taken on June 3, 2012 at about 5:30 a.m. Hope the time frame works.

Thanks Roman. I was hoping to see more images up, but so far.... When is the deadline?

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/12/12 01:21 PM

The closest thing we've had to "morning mist" was yesterday's morning downpour. Tough time of year for mist here in Central Florida.

Hey Diane,

The deadline was a week from Monday. So we still have a few more days (and a weekend).

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/12/12 03:40 PM

Hey Jim,

We changed the subject matter a bit to "Morning Glory." The mist/dew requirement was taken out because many of us are in locations where there is little. I have been in the same situation as you have in this area. It has been between 90 and 100F for most of the last couple of weeks. It was been cool at 87F yesterday.

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/15/12 02:25 PM

Well, I guess "glory" is a relative term. I found this Orchard Spider weaving his magical web one morning last week on my back patio. Loved the way the morning sunlight reflected off of his web and created almost irridescent patterns.

Enjoy,

Jim

Here is mine... just under the wire at 10:56pm...

I took this yesterday morning near the Vermilion Cliffs in Northern Arizona.

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/25/12 10:56 PM

Hey James and Diane.

I would like to suggest we call this a draw. Diane can have the shirt sin ce I already have one, and we can move to next month's contest. I hate to have this be drawn out any more.

What do you think?

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/26/12 06:22 PM

Hi Dave,

I am fine with having you withdraw. LOL, I cannot afford TWO shirts in a month. :P

James

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/27/12 01:32 PM

You must not have read his post closely. He said call it a draw (not withdraw) and send the shirt to Diane....as he already has one. So no need for two shirts.

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/27/12 02:34 PM

Yes - assuming Diane is ok with this, let's do this and move on to the next month's contest.

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/27/12 08:46 PM

Yuppers...you are right. I did not. frown I generally have a "there can be only one" mentality, but I am fine with this.

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/30/12 09:21 PM

Thanks, all. Definitely a oneness thing here. And, thanks Dave, for giving me the advantage here. I graciously accept. However, your image was fabulous, for sure. Now, I'm going to think about the next topic, and get back to you all in a little while. This is going to be a major decision, after all. laugh

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/30/12 11:11 PM

OK I thought about it. How does the topic "Heat" sound? It could be whatever or however anyone interprets what heat is. For instance, it can be a campfire or the sun. Hot sand or hot pavement. Whatever. Seems like an appropriate mid-summer theme, at least for us northerners. Your thoughts?
Posted By: daveman

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/31/12 03:33 AM

I think Heat is a great topic- very timely right not.
Posted By: RomanJohnston

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 07/31/12 11:41 AM

Yep...heat should do just fine.

Re: May/June Forum Contest - Morning Mist - 08/02/12 09:58 PM

So James, how and/or when does the next contest get kicked off? Is there anything I'm supposed to do?

I think it has started!
