Disability, Day 1

Disability, Day 1 - 09/07/07 12:37 AM

I am the kind of person that always has to be doing something. So what does a photographer do when they can't be out photographing?

I sat out in my backyard enjoying the nice day here in Alaska. The leaves are just starting to turn color. Even though the temperature is in the 60's, I can feel the briskness in the gentle breeze, reminding me that fall is coming fast. I hear the Black-capped Chickadees and the Red-breated Nuthatches chirping and fussing over the seeds in the feeder. Are they discussing or arguing over which seeds are theirs or which are the best tasting? I am visited by a Stellar's Jay feeding on the seeds from my feeder made from a tree stump. The mother moose and her baby (which is almost her size now) pause on their journey to see how I am doing. A Common Raven flies to my table, steals a cigarette and flies off to destination unknown. A dragon fly pauses on some clover, before moving on. My Golden Retreiver wants to play ball and when I can't throw the ball far enough with my left arm, he plays soccer with the ball instead. I hear some Sandhill Cranes in a field not too far away. I imagine they are discussing their moving plans to Bosque Del Apache. The red squirrel thinks he is getting over on me as he "steals" some sunflower seeds to store over the winter, not realizing that I purposely spill some seed when I fill the feeders. Oh well, let the squirrel have his illusions. Over all it was a nice day except one thing:

I CAN'T OPERATE MY DAMN CAMERA!!!!!!

Hey David,

Given the apparent success of the surgery, did the doctors give you an idea of how long the recoup will be?

My arm will be in a sling for 6 weeks and then physical therapy for a minimum of 3 months is all I know for now. I see the Doc again on Tuesday to learn more.

Now what we need is voice command camers. No more menus. No more buttons all over the place.

"camera on"
"zoom 50mm"
"ISO 200"
"stop 2point8"
"shutter 1 8 second"
"center focus"
"mirror up"
"fire"

Or something like that...

Now half way through that sequence, I would cough or sneeze and have to start over again.
